Hi All I amlooking to put a flathead back in my 41 coupe. I found one locally , but it is a 49 or 50 the owner thinks. The water pump engine mounts are angled not flat ( straight) . Can these be changed to the flat or straight water pump mounts so I would be able to put this motor in my car ? Thanks Joe

yes, 48 and up truck pumps or 49-50 merc pumps will work.

This comes under the category of being in an area that I don't know much about and probably should keep my mouth shut. With that disclaimer here goes: "Isn't the post '49 engine assemble slightly larger and that will make it more difficult to fit into the '41?" If the 49 or 50 is stock it will have the water outlets at the front of the heads and not in the center like a '41. Charlie Stephens

If you have the stock transmission, you will need a bell housing for the engine from a truck or a 49-51 Mercury, truck water pumps and probably will have to modify the fan to bring it to the correct distance from the radiator. IMHO it is better to try to source a 39-48 engine.

I have a 1936 2 door sedan and it has a 1948 Ford Flat heard V8 engine in it and the water pumps sticking straight out and it works fine .I had to replace the lower Radiator hoses they are 1 3/4 inches in diameter recently and it was not that easy to replace them I soften them up by putting the new hot water
