Have you checked the Service Bulletins, if I remember correctly they cover it in detail? Charlie Stephens

Charlie, thanks for your reply. I'm very new to this site and just learning about the 34. Can you tell where to find the service bulletins?

Before adjusting the steering gear, make sure that the tie rod ends, drag link ends and king pins all are in very good condition. These items can cause excessive play at the steering wheel. Over-tightening the adjustment can lead to wear and steering gear failure. You should also be aware that a 1934 Ford will have more free play and steering wander than a 2018 car. Rack and pinion steering is much more precise than the worm and sector style steering.

It is the December, 1932 issue of the Service Bulletins, pages 79-83, that have the complete adjustment instructions applicable to all '32-'36 passenger car and commercial vehicle steering gears. Also, when the wheels are dead center straight, there should no play in the steering wheel when the steering gear is properly adjusted. Off dead center straight the amount of play in the steering wheel should be equal both clockwise and counter-clockwise.
