Tom, You nailed this. Thanks. I like the paint from Roy Nacewicz the best. He went to great pains to duplicate the authentic shade. Hirsche's paint is also a quality product but we've (us retentive restorers) have since found the green, well, "too green". I don't know how else to describe it The intake was masked where the generator would eventually mount to provide a bare / better ground.

Photo # 3. Note the lack of paint around the edges of the intake manifold

Good Afternoon, Steve--- They say "a picture is worth a thousand words". So I am going to send you a 3,000 word response to your e-mail inquiry. First of all, check out Chapter 5 of the 1940 Restoration Manual. On page 5-3, and I quote " The correct color for the block is Ford Engine Green (Ditzler DQE40133), which is a dark shade of green. The engines are assembled after the parts are painted, so there should be no paint on any gaskets, or on the machined surfaces". The cylinder head nuts are unpainted and have a cadmium finish. On page 5-12, the oil pan, including the dipstick tube, is painted gloss black. Check with your local automotive paint store. Or, contact Bill Hirsch Automotive Products. I got my paint from him - spray can and liquid - www.hirschauto.com. Hey Mike - please double-check my reply. I seem to recall your prior e-mail response on another question about engine color, but - darn it - I can't find it. Good Luck. Tom
