Originals very seldom unrepairable they are prone to cracking at all the solder joints and dirt plugging the vent. If you do a good job of cleaning, the joints can all be re-soldered. The vent usually can be reopened after soaking in cleaner then use some compressed air to eject dirt. The cracks can allow air into the hydrostatic system preventing operation of the fuel gauge, or air to enter the fuel pick up making it nearly impossible for the fuel pump to work properly.
