the original type nuts had a round surface on the bottom of them,kinda hard to explain here, these was for the cast iron heads,and sorted acted like a washer,if you need nuts buy from ROY N to get the CORRECT ONES, hope this helps, KEEP ON TRUCKIN''' 37RAGTOPMAN

No, only aluminum heads had washers to prevent galling.
