All, I have the original floor mat in place on our '42 Super Deluxe Tudor Sedan. At this point it's a dark taupe color with the carpet inserts and Jute backing intact, but is slowly going to pieces as the old rubber just disintegrates. In the '41 to '48 book put out by the club a black mat with carpet inserts is specified for my car. I suppose the original black color could have just faded over time to the current color. In looking at vendor catalogues, I see I can get a new black mat for the car but without the carpet inserts. I could probably find some carpet pieces that would be a close match and just glue them to the new mat. Has anybody tried to do this before? and how did it work out? Is my guess about the original rubber fading to the taupe color plausible, or could I have some strange mat? Is there any way to stabilize and continue to use the original mat?

I just used the black mat as is. I did not add any carpet. I guess it depends on how accurate you want to be. Mine wont be in any nation meet.

I used the type with the inserts, but the inserts would not stay in place regardless of the adhesive, so I went with the plain mat. The originals bound the inserts. I would take them to an auto trim place and have them sewn to the mat if I did it over. The "taupe" offered today doesn't resemble the original anyway.

I'm not so interested in showing the car per se, but I do want it to look as much like an original as I can. Thanks very much Supereal for the suggestion to have them bound on at a trim shop, think I'll look into that.
