As a point of info, I don't think there is an exhaust manifold that is specific to a 59 AB engine. The exhaust manifolds are more chassis/ vehicle specific.. In the event of a replacement engine being installed in a vehicle, many times the manifold (s) that came with the engine are used which can require adjustments to the head pipes.. I always prefer to use the vehicle manifolds... I believe in the KISS principle... Keep It Simple Stupid...

Are you sure that the pipe is galvanized? Most of the new pipes are aluminized steel. Here is a link to a website with instructions on welding practices. http://www.thefabricator.com/article/arcwelding/arc-welding-101-best-practices-for-aluminized-steel

I'm not sure. Welding galvanized can be hazardous. Check with your muffler installer on that one.

Thanks clifford... If I need to grind the flange weld off, can galvanized steel be welded with a MIG welder or is a TIG required?

On my '48 my manifold is just like yours. Your muffler man should be able to cut and reposition the flange or weld on another one in the correct position. Merry Christmas!

I'm having an issue with a non-local muffler shop about the placement of the passenger side flange on my exhaust pipe. They put the flange on so the stud holes are north/south in the same direction as the pipe, but my manifold has the studs at an angle...(photo attached). Is my manifold a standard 59AB exhaust manifold?
