All of the reproduction water pumps with the sealed bearing are made in China. The castings are rougher than the original water pumps. Skip Haney will rebuild your pumps at a higher cost than the reproductions, but they will look original and work better than new.

You can purchase water pumps from Dennis Carpenter either way you want. For 1937 t0 1948 Ford cars he lists new water pumps and also rebuilt originals. The rebuilt originals cost twice as much as the new ones he offers. I installed a set of his new pumps on a '53 Ford last year and have been very happy with them after more than 7,000 miles.

When replacing the bronze bushing type water pumps, be sure the small opening to the camshaft cover is open. It lubricates the bushing. If you are running an alternator instead of a generator, the ball bearing type will withstand the extra belt tension required.
