The gas tank filler pipe on my '39 Deluxe Coupe does not fit flush with the fender. Even with the end that connects to the gas tank butted up to the gas tank the filler end stick out about 3/4 inch from the fender. By looking at the catalogs it appears my gas tank filler pipe is 91A-9034-B which is correct for a 39. I see no way to shorten the filler pipe bc of the relief line. What's the solution her? Thank you for your response.

The fill pipe does have to fit proud of the fender, the gas cap fits over the end of the fill pipe. The rubber filler grommet also takes up some room. Plus you can usually see a small amount of the fill pipe once everything is installed. So the 3/4" does not seem bad.

Thanks for your reply. I think my issue is getting the flat grommet to fit the concave fender. I'll try harder. Thanks

I had this problem with my 1939 Deluxe Tudor. I was able to correct it. I don't remember exactly how (it was four years ago), but I think it was by adjusting the fit of the filler pipe in the rubber sleeve. I have attached a photo.

Another thing to be aware of is that the early 39s used the 37-38 style grommet. I think in your case you use the later style though, I was just mentioning this in case someone else had a problem. My car was built approx. the middle of Nov and used the early style grommet. Many years ago I tried to replace it with a NOS later grommet that I happened to have and it did not work well at all. I put the original back on until I got a repop early style.
