I'm back to my "poor" running engine. Everything checked and seeminly OK. Adjusted carb. mixture to a richer "blend". That seemed to be good. Started cold the other day with a bang! Ran horribly on my short trip and wanted to die out. My mechanic now suspects a faulty condensor. Engine was overhauled in 2010. Points/plugs/wires changed. Skip overhauled my original coil. Carb. completely renovated. Not done a compression check yet, but how bad could that be in this engine? Less than 2000 miles since overhaul/repairs. Question: Where can I buy the correct condensor that is American made? I seem to be getting mixed signals on the availability for my car. Thanks, Peder

Try a NAPA condenser " IH- 200" They can be simply adapted to the flat head. What yr is the dizzy. ken ct.

Thanks for the reply. My Brother in Washington called a local Napa store there...questioning where the IH-200 is made, they replied..."think it's made in Mexico or China". Out of stock. Have been warned that condensors in general that are not American made, are junk!?? Anyone else of that opinion? I don't know....Peder

Peder, A faulty condenser will cause a weak spark. A Skips coil should give a nice blue spark 1.27 cm long at idle when the spark plug wire is held near a ground or a head nut. A compression test is a good idea. If your engine is not run regularly, one or more valves could be sticking. It will also let you examine the spark plugs for unwelcome deposits. Another good test is done with a vacuum gauge. Here is a link to using one. http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/186.cfm
