I removed the glove box and the two screws that hold the lock to the dash. Do I have to bend the dash to get the lock out?

I need new glasses. I replied to this thinking it was a 1940 Mercury. After posting it, I saw that it was a 1946 Mercury. The only suggestion that I can make is to be sure tat the lock is unlocked so the push button can be pushed in to give some clearance.

The lock is unlocked. When I push the button down I can almost get the lock out, but not quite. It needs to go down a lot more. I need to remove it the get the the key code so I can have a trunk key and glove box key, since they both use the same key. Thanks for your reply.

Have you tried contacting Rusty Davis, The V-8 Club's 42-48 Mercury advisor? He may be able to give you more specific help. It has been too many years ago that I lats worked on a 42-48 Mercury. On my 40 Mercury, you have to push the lock towards the front of the car until the button clears the opening and then tilt it down to get the latch free from the dash.
