I've got a 1950 mercury sedan with which I believe has a 255 flathead engine with manual transmission and overdrive. Has been converted to 12 v , where can I buy a starter?

You can have 12 volt field coils put in your starter or look for a 56 Ford V-8 or Mercury starter.

You can put one of those 'Mini" 12 v high ratio starters on a flathead.I have one on my 1950 12 volt that has an all "hopped up" motor; and the Ford starter woudn't crank it! H& H in California has them, as do others; or just google them! They cost about $240.. but boy do they spin!!! I think you can buy them on Ebay too, brand new.

Use the same 6 volt starter It will work wonderfully for a long time on 12 volta. When it quits install the 12V field coils.
