Can anyone tell me why you, according the Lincoln manual, set the second set of points at 221/2 degrees and not 30 degrees? I was taught you divide 360 by the number of cylinders and get what you should set the second set of points on a dual point dist.

It isn't quite that easy. I am attaching a spec sheet for Ford-Mercury-Lincoln distributors. We use this with our Sun machine, the only sure way to get the dwell, and thus the timing correct. In this sytem, the first set of points "make" the circuit, and the second set "break" the circuit to trigger the coil. The point gap shown is approximate, but close enough to get the engine running fairly well.

I should have explained, this is for a V12, so each set of points fires 6 plugs.

Both sets of points are set for the same amount of dwell. Could you be confusing the timing with dwell? The distributor fires at 37.5 and 22.5 intervals.

Tom, The sun book I have tells me to set them dwell on both set of points at 37.5 degrees. Then set the stationary points to fire on "O" on the movable ring. Hook the lead to the movable set of points and adjust the points untill they fire at 22.5 degres. We did this and the engine runs "like a swiss watch". Rod
