All the documentation, I have, from Ford, says 3". Someone may say different but I have not seen any documentation otherwise.

This is from the 38-39-40 Feb. 20, 1940 Chassis Parts book (fairly early in 40). See part number 48-18055-A for the 01A in 1940, the 3" link is 48-18055-A They are identified by length in the Green Chassis parts book of 1950 in addition many of the NOS links are embossed with this part number.

Actually Steve, if your car is equipped with a factory sway bar,as it should be, it requires 4" links. Otherwise 3". Parts books are not the best place to identify correct application of parts if you are attempting a proper (authentic) restoration. However, parts books can be a great place to identify parts that will fit and function. This is one of those instances. No shock link installed upon the 1940 assembly line had the part number cast upon it. Service replacement parts had, on occasion, the part number cast upon them. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

Thanks Kube, I do have the sway bar, I thought the front links were supposed to be a little longer than the rears but wasn't sure. Steve PS Thanks also to the others who responded
