Mike, We just acquired a 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe and need help in locating the vehicle ID # so we can show it to State of Florida Vehicle Registration office. They will not accept the previous owner's registration and want to verify ID # against our documentation. Is it under the engine block? It's not on door panel stamp. Thanks, R

Richard, The vin is stamped into the top of the drivers side frame rail midway between the radiator and fire wall. It is stamped pretty crudely and is a little hard to see if it has not been cleaned in that area for a while. The number should start with a star. I too went through this just recently here in Cal. Good luck Curts 41

Hi Richard, Curt's reply was correct. The number was hand stamped in the left frame rail somewhere between the cowl and the front cross member. I have found most (but not all) to be closer to the cross member than the cowl. As it was hand stamped, it is often difficult to see. I suggest steel wool to remove whatever paint, surface corrosion, etc. is atop the numbers. Once you've located it, a light sanding and a little oil will make the recesses 'raise' a bit for better inspection. If I can ever be of any further help, simply let me know! Mike Kubarth
