VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)

Is there any place that sell it? I have the switch but the wire harness is in very bad shape.Is the switch the same for the 39 as the 40? No 2 The dash light in my 40 don't show as good as they should,plus I need to have the speedometer recondition where the best place to do that. No3 I want to put turn signals on my 40 what the best turn signal kit and where to get.No4 My tail light are not very bright also. I am just trying to get the 40 up to snuff.I want to thank Mike for all his help. Wish I live close to him,I would drive him crazy picking his mind for information.

39, 40, 41 switches are all different. I tried to put a 40 knob on the 39 switch that I have and it did not line up.

You can use 55 bulbs for brighter dash lights, but you may see some reflection on the windshield. Using a bright white paint on the inside off the cluster helps also. Check out you instrument panel dimmer switch to make sure that you are getting 6 volts to the bulbs.

Bob's speedometer comes highly recommended and Baxter Ford parts is another source.

The Signal Stat turn signal switch seems to last longer than some of the others. Many vendors sell them.

Check the voltage at your tail lights to make sure that you are getting a full 6 volts to them. Make sure that the sockets are clean and free from rust and corrosion. you can check for a good ground by putting some alligator clips on about 25 ft of 14 gauge wire and clipping one end to the tail light bucket and the other to the POS terminal of the battery. If your lights get brighter, you have a grounding problem. You can also modify a flashlight reflector to fit in the housing behind the bulb. This will direct more of the light through the lens. There are some lenses that are a lighter color. These thing will all improve a system that is not up to specs, but your lights will never be as bright as the new cars on the road.

Hi Ken,
1) C&G (800-266-0470) has the hot water heater harness. Part #91A-18457, it's $23.64.
The switches have some minor differences between the years. However, all three years wire (operate) the same.
2) The dash lights are naturally very dim. The two #51 bulbs are only 1 candle power each. The #55 bulb will fit and will double the candle power. Still, at 2CP per bulb, well, let's face it, they will remain rather dim.
I prefer Mike Blaisdell for speedometer repair / calibration. he's in Indiana. A VERY honest man, he works his magic both quickly and quite reasonably. he can be reached at 317-908-7811. Tell him I said h*llo!
3) Many of the reproduction places sell decent units. I'd prefer one that self cancels.
4) Part of the problem here is the low candle power of each bulb coupled with the small dark glass lens and black tail lamp bucket. They all make for the dilemma you are concerned with. First, be 100% certain each bucket is grounded very well. If you have reproduction buckets, check the connection between the bucket and the socket. The attachment points are often poorly done (loose)and you will loose ground there.
Also, there have been a few modifications that have proven to help increase the brightness. Painting the interior of the bucket with a highly reflective paint (chrome paint) helps quite a bit. Also, it has been tested - installing a prismatic reflector removed from a cheap flashlight works better than foil or a smooth reflector or those stainless steel inserts sold by many suppliers.
I am not a fan of the halogen lamps as they cause too much of a draw on the electrical system.

I tried the part number 91A-18457 and no listing for the heater wire at C&G First I am going to test the grounds for the lights. I am 73 now hate night driving. The light even on modern car is? But my Dodge truck I love for the lights. I love them. I got caught after dark in the 40 and tuff driving home. Thanks Mike for your help and same to others. I have done busuness with Baxter and they have been super.

I used a light meter to check the output of my tail lights. I found that supplying less than 6 volts to the bulbs decreased their brightness considerably. With 5.8 Volts to the bulb, the light meter read 20% lower than it did with 6 volts. The light switch and the bullet connectors can all drop the voltage enough to make the lights dim enough that they cannot be seen at night.

The headlights are the same, low voltage can dim them considerably, The light switch and the dimmer switch add to the problem by having high resistant connections.

You should make sure that your headlights are aimed properly. That can make a huge difference. As my cataracts get worse, I need more light also.

In my previous post, I assumed that you were going to try to put the 1940 knob on an earlier switch. If you use the correct knob for the switch, everything will turn out OK. The 47-48 switches use a different terminal to connect the wires, but the 40 harness can be modified to use it.

I agree with Mike about the halogen bulbs. They draw too much current for the stock wiring harness. The tail light bulbs that I tried were bright on the tail lights, but when the stop lights were activated, you could not tell the differencer
