We are experiencing leaks where bottom and upper half of carb attach. What do the experts recommend to fix the leak and a recommendation of a place to get it rebuilt if needed. Thanks much Dale

Dale, Charlie Schwendler in NY is tops in my opinion. He tests each component prior to shipping. He is a very good craftsman and is prompt as well as reasonable. If you need his contact information, let me know. These old casting did have a tendency to warp so your issue is not uncommon.

Yes, Charlie will rebuild your carb. He will test run it on his run stand and when you get it back it will all ready to go. He also rebuilds fuel pumps and converts Chevy distributors for use in an 8ba. Fair prices and fast turn around. IMO

You can repair the leaks between the airhorn and the main body and between the main body and the throttle body by doing the following: Remove the three parts listed above from each other. Once you have these items separated, remove any parts that protrude beyond the sealing surfaces of each part. You will need the following items: some sheets of 220 to 400 grit wet or dry sand paper, a perfectly flat surface like a piece of window glass, a new carburetor gasket set and a small amount of water. Place a sheet of sandpaper, rough side up, on the sheet of glass. Apply a little water to the surface of the sandpaper and rub the various carburetor bodies on the paper until the sealing surfaces are flat and completely smooth. Thoroughly clean each carburetor part to make sure they are grit-free and reassemble the carburetor using the new gaskets. Your carburetor will now be free of leaks from these joints.

The original Carb. for the 40 Ford is the Holley or Ford 94 model 91-99. If your Carb is different look for the correct Carb to be rebuilt. If you want to rebuild yourself go to Daytona parts for a rebuild kit. They also rebuild your Carb.
