I searched a bit more and found this image online. It seems that empty hole in mine is for a rubber insulated stud to hold the wire clamp when not in use. That makes sense, otherwise the batteries might need to be pulled when not in use. I also found that speedway sells the 3-bolt to 2-bolt adaper parts, which are absent on mine. Good to know.

If the lamp lights up when when you touch the clip to any of the metal structure of the timing fixture, you are good. I do not know what the hole is in the photograph. Mine has a wooden box, and that hole is not present. Please keep us all posted as to your progress!

I installed 2 D cells, then touched the alligator clip to the fixture and the light came on ?? So it apparently is wired correctly. But the wires are ratty, so I want to disassemble, clean and rewire it. I have read the guidance in the service bulletins. Very good. Another question - what goes in this hole? Somthing appears to be missing?

Thanks for the tip about the tapered pin. I would like to take mine apart for derusting and lubrication. Any other tips or trick? I was looking inside at the battery wires and Im not sure if its wired right or not. Can someone post photos of how itshould be to confirm? This has been apart and repainted, so no telling. Thanks Steve

That is a later one (which, IMHO, is better because of the Dwell Scale). The metal box is cool! I have taken mine all the way apart-there is a tapered pin that holds the rotating center in from underneath. These are easy to use and work great (again, IMHO). I have really enjoyed working with mine and have set up four distributors with it (have only run one, so far). The biggest problem I have had is finding points that line up properly (i.e. the contact points on the repro's don't always align properly). If you can find NOS points, I would do so.

A very interesting discussion. I picked up this one from a friend at Hershey last year, but have never tried to use it. It looks to be a later unit with the dwell scale. It also looks like it had a vertical post at one time, but is now lost to the ages. I need to study the information in this discussion more closely and try to learn how t use it. But first it needs a good cleaning. Any tips or suggestions are welcome.

Having technical difficulties...I took a video of my distributor in use, but I'm not able to send it to my email - Google said it exceeded the file size limit. I don't understand that since it's only 32 seconds long. Anyway, I am able to text it to you if you like.

RAK402, I'll try to post a video in the next day or so. Thanks for your patience.

Carcheologist, Could I trouble you (at some point) to post a short video of your V126 in operation with a timed distributor on it? One thing I have noticed, when the distributor is correctly timed, the point where the light first goes on (when the dwell is set correctly) is when the Firing Line on the disc is aligned with the left edge of the projection that supports the timing pin. This gives the precise 35 degrees of dwell that Ford recommended. Also, below is a video from 3rd Gen Automotive showing the timing of one of these distributors on a Sun Machine. What is very interesting is toward the end of the video, where he checks the timing on a KR Wilson V126. He then adjusts the timing based on the V126 results (correcting the Sun Machine results). He does mention that only the Sun Machine will test the advance and test the points for float. https://youtu.be/a1HktSGhBho?si=941e90YcUO384yjD
