Is it possible to put a back seat in a 1940 coupe(not business)? I've seen it done but assumed they were business coupes. I don't mean jump seats, I mean a bench back seat so I can stick my kids back there. all 3 want to ride with me but only room for 1!

I suppose it could be done but with the solid seat backrest, how are the kids gonna get "back there"? I have seen, even had one, business coupes where the jump seats were (sadly) tossed and a "box" of sorts was built to sit on. Even then, I hope at least two of your kids are very small.

my car has the split seats so the back is accessible, which is why I thought it was a business coupe originally. Kids are 9,8 and 5. Maybe a vw bug rear seat would fit. Should have gotten a sedan but love the coupe.

Yes! The 1937 Ford Club Coupes had full width back seats. More than 15K of them were made.

I did see someone who used the rear seats from a 65-66 Mustang in the rear of a '40 coupe. As I recall it was done on a business coupe as there is more room behind the front seat and the floor pan is longer than the regular coupe.
