Take a look at pages 1-57 and 1-58 of the best-selling book "It's Ford for '40". They talk about Spare Tire Mounting. The clamp you have, as Mike said, is correct - just needs to be cleaned up a little and painted. The cadmium bolt, special nut, and associated hardware mentioned in the book may be a little tougher to find. Mike sent you a distant photo of a 40 Fordor trunk. That's my car. Send me a pm or email with your email - I will send you an enlarged photo of the trunk, which should help you. I can't get the photo downloaded to this website, to send with this response (Technically Challenged Senior!) So, will try to forward by email. Tom tw4tees4ever@aol.com

Sorry for being a bit redundant, but I couldn't fully answer my question from your picture, Mike. I've got a '39 Deluxe Fordor and have been running without a spare and will be putting one in this season. After I saw this thread, I pulled this piece out of my rusty parts bucket. Is this the correct hardware that holds the spare in? Or would it at least work if I blasted it, painted it and got a nut on it?

Do not forget the wood block that the tire rests against.

Hi Kurt, Here's a photo of a '40 Fordor. It is pretty much identical to what you should have in your Tudor. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

That looks like what I have but there is no way I could pick up the spare tire up to the package deck to screw a clamp on it. What ever goes up there has to be some what lite to be able to pick it up that high and screw a wing nut on it. thanks kurt

Hi Kurt, Is what you have the same as my photo? If so, that's the bolt that along with the clamp, holds the spare tire in the luggage compartment.
