"Kubes", are the horns on my '40 supposed to be satin black, or gloss black??

Steve--On pg. 5-10 of the old book - "The 1940 Ford Restoration Manual", it says that the horn assembly is painted Gloss Black. This is the book that Mike has been working his tail off doing a complete revision. I doubt the Horn section will be changed in the revised manual, so I'd go ahead and paint them accordingly. Not sure if this older edition of the Restoration Manual is still available in the website's Online Store/Books section. Check it out. If not, the "usual suspects" - Bob Drake, Dennis Carpenter, California (formerly Sacramento) Vintage Ford, etc. - should have them in stock. Tom Tom

Steve, Nearly everything that was authentically black on your car was in fact gloss black. There are but a few exceptions. It is nothing more than a myth that the frames, etc. were "chassis black"... some kind of reference to a less than gloss finish.
