Can someone please tell me the approx.. location of where to look for the vin. numbers on the 1940 ford's passanger car 's three speed transmission. thanks Domenic

Here is the number on one of my cases (see attached photo). Of course if it was a replacement case from the factory it would not have a number. Charlie Stephens

Hey Charlie thank you for posting the picture of your vin. it clearly shows the prefix. I believe when tom said that I have to remove the floor boards he was referring to the transmission cover . I hope so thank you very much for the help

I think the floor boards lap over the flange on the transmission cover, so floor boards have to come out before the transmission cover can be removed.
