Topic: 1946-48 ford convertible rear seat

yucca_bronch    -- 04-24-2024 @ 12:12 PM
I have a '47 ford convertible I am slowly restoring. I bought it as the proverbial "bucket of bolts, but everything is there..." I'm at the point where I want to install the rear seat, but my re-upholstered upper seat doesn't fit where the mounts are. I'm pretty sure the mounts have been tack welded in the wrong place. It looks like the former owner was trying to delete the top and just mount the seat to the rear of the passenger compartment. Anyone able to take a picture of the stock rear upper seat mounts, with the top irons, so I can get an idea of what I need to fabricate?

The rear cushion does not mount to the body , it hangs on the package tray with 2 hooks on back of cushion & the bottom bolts to 2 short brackets welded to floor. The tray is a piece of 5/8 plywood with a piece of 5/4 by approximately 3 inches mounted to the front of the plywood for the hooks.

Thanks, I figured it was something like that. I got an image in my mind of what it should look like, but would love a picture from anyone.

I can’t tell by the pictures but do u have the 4 brackets needed to support the wood shelve. 1 on each rear brace & 1 on each wheel well

I have the remnants of some brackets on the wheel wells. The pictures I added shows the state of the rear braces.

Here is picture of front , hard to read the fuller but about 13 inches from floor inside the car to bottom of plywood shelve.

What are the measurements of the plywood piece? Looks like 5/8 thick as mentioned above, width will obviously be determined by the wheel well mount points, but depth?

Based on these pics and dimensions, it's pretty clear the rear supports were also moved forward. Yours appear to mount mid-hump, mine are in the front. Another thing I have to do.

Any chance I could get a measurement from rear trunk to bottom support?

flathead48    -- 05-05-2024 @ 3:58 AM
Not sure what u are asking , do u mean from bottom of trunk where it latches to body . Do u mean the cross braces?

These two photos show how the rear seat attaches to the package tray and the floor. FYI. Good luck with your build.

I remember vividly the rear seat of my 1946-48 Ford convertible, it felt like riding on a cloud, cruising down the highway with the wind in my hair.

How does the bottom bench mount? Mine has four tabs, but I don't have any place to bolt them to?

rg130    -- 05-16-2024 @ 9:44 AM
The rear bottom seat slides into position where the back edge of the bottom seat goes under the bottom of the upright cushion and the front of the bottom cushion fits over the metal cross bar support. The attached photo show the seat in the pulled up position. Not sure what tabs your referring to.
