I am rebuilding 94 and 97 carbs. What finish would be correct for these carbs? I am considering Zinc plating and di chromate.

Why put any plating on them? Why not just clean them to the best of your ability and use them like that?

Authentically, they had a dull / satin "zinc" plated appearance. The golden plating we see on the concourse occasionally is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. And please, don't paint them. If you'd like, I could (later) post a photo of a NOS carburetor. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

That would be great, thanks.

Here ya go. Some of the NOS carburetors I've had had a tiny tint of "gold" on them as does this one. Others, not so much. Mike "Kube" Kubarth This message was edited by kubes40 on 3-27-23 @ 3:43 PM

Don’t know why people did this - my ‘36 Phaeton arrived here with a gold painted carb. The ‘38 wagon came with a gold-ish (not painted) carb. Would be interested to find out how this unfortunate trend started.

I'm not certain how that trend started. Ignorance? I'd seen some on the concourse that were BRIGHT gold. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

Mike, As often as not, that slight "tint of gold" appears to me to be more like a very faint rainbow of colors. That's what I see in your photo. Beats me how that was bumped up to yellow chromate plating in the minds of some.

just to give some corrosion protection. Zinc looks like original carb i think. I just ordered equipment to do Zinc plating. I have 2 94's in process right now, one is mine, the other a customer's I am going to plate mine and let him decide. Will try to post a picture here.

What would be correct for the cast iron bases? I painted my first one with cast iron VHT paint. This is just a hobby for me and some want a different look to their carbs but I want to be able to make them look original for those who want that. This started from a desire to change my 3 deuce's from 94's to 97's. I now have about 14 94's and 9 97's to be rebuilt.
