Hello, trying to figure out why my hood will not stay open, replaced the springs and arms and the hood lowers about half way to closed position any ideas? Thanks,John

It's possible you have the wrong arms on the hood. The '41 arms will work on the later hood , but the hood will not open as far as the later arms will allow.

The hood on my '46 Super Deluxe Coupe opens to 30" between the under side of the hood nose, to the hood latch area on the front clip. When I let it go, it relaxes to an opening of 26". I don't know what is considered normal, but that's what my hood does.

was wonering if you used NOS hood springs or REPOPS ? [ china ]
did the hood open all the way before ?
if not NOS SPRINGS, try SOUTHSIDE OBSOLETE in MINN , see if Fred has some NOS
hope this helps 37Raggtopman

If you log onto, Mark's 1941-1948 Ford Parts and click onto "articles" is a complete section on how to adjust the 1941-1948 hood. The article is very informative and is the same article that was in the V-8 Times.

Had the exact same problem with my 46. Used a wood rod for years to hold it open.

Brain storm one day led me to simply really tighten all bolts connected to the hinges.

Now it stays open very nice.

silverchief. Can you give a measurement as per my description in my previous post, so I can compare to my '46? It would be appreciated.

Thanks, 51woodie

When I open the hood on my '46 Woodie the measurement is about 30" and stays at 30".

The design of the 42-48 hood hinges drops the cowl end on the hood just as the front engages the safety catch. Any wear of hinge, particularly the pivots, will interfere with the hood closure. On my '47 I ordered a new set of hinges from C&G after spending way too much time trying to make the originals work correctly. The part number is 51A-16782/3. Catalog shows price as $$79.95. Order # is (800) 266-0470.
