We leave tomorrow for the two day trip to Franklin TN and the 2022 Eastern National Meet. Look forward to being reminded of what a trip in a 73 year old car is all about. Have done it before, but not since 2019 and the Driftless National Driving Tour. It sounds like it will be the "8 speed" air conditioning for the week. (four windows down and 4 vent windows open). But, it will be great to see someplace new and participate with other Early Ford V-8 Club members. And then there is the two lane. Just love motoring along through the small towns and the 40 minutes at gas stops. ("Hey, my parents had a car just like that!") Hope you are planning on attending. Tennessee -- Jack Daniels, country music, Bar B Q, beer and V-8 friends!!!!

Bruce, If we get everything finished for registration, concourse, and trophies and get it all loaded in Carolyn's SUV and the '51 Mercury, we plan to be on the road Sunday morning at 5:00 am. Hoping to be in Franklin early afternoon. We will wait for you. At the bar. Bring cash. Photo from that same Driftless Tour.

Day 1 completed. Wind, hail, rain and being lost for 1/2 hour in the rain. Did I mention the wind? Seems the tour guide (me) did a slight mis-calculation -- and we did 511 miles and 11 hours and 20 minutes of two lane blacktop. Saw some neat stuff and fought the wind --- yes, there was wind. If the calculations are correct -- then Monday will only 400 miles. Remember -- just hold the map up and everything will be downhill.

Day 2 completed. Made it to the headquarters hotel around 4:45 pm after leaving at 6:10 am. Not a great day traveling, but driving through Springfield IL on Memorial Day was a breeze. Found out that it is planting time in Illinois and those moving farm machinery dont exactly fit onto 2 lane roads. Missed 2 turns because the equipment had previously driven down the 2 lane and knocked down a couple of highway directional signs that we needed to see. The parking lot already had about 2 dozen V-8s in it and the hotel lobby air conditioning was a welcome relief from 88 degree driving in a flathead Ford. Yes gas was a bit higher, but we had no problems finding non-ethel and premium. Look forward to a good nights sleep and not having to wake up before the sun does tomorrow. Web Administrator

Day 3 complete. Today was warm. Members are arriving. Found a gas station nearby. Too warm to wash car, water would dry before you could wipe it down. Will try tomorrow morning early. Registration opened and so did the Your Choice Raffle room. Lots to look at and bid on. Wednesday is the offical start and there will be things to look for at the swap meet. This is a big area if your are a country music fan. There are a lot of stars homes around the hotel area.

Day 4 complete. Still warm -- OK, just hot. Swap meet started and found some great purchases. Washed car very early -- before 7 am, and the sun still baked down. Ran through Operational Check and made the staff laugh when I locked up the brakes. Guess that wasn't a requirement. Enjoyed the Meet and Greet event. People are still coming in. Tomorrow is suppose to be cooler -- but remember, weather is the one thing that you can not control.

Day 5 completed. Today was check out the swap meet one more time. Had something in sight, but it was in a pile some else was building -- oh well. Attended the 1935-1936 Ford Parts Difference seminar. Vety interesting. Presented by 4 different gentlemen. The humidity has finally broken. Assisted in placing the vehicle parking markers. Welcome Party was great -- good food and a great Nashville band. Concourse Day tomorrow. Temps are suppose to be cooler. Great sunset.

Day 6 --- not completed --- but posting early. Great day for an Early Ford V-8 Concourse. The layout was well planned and there were Fords, Mercurys and a Lincoln. A 1934 Lincoln KA (I think that is what they were called). Great weather makes for a great day -- slight breeze and 82 degrees and lower humidity. Won a couple of Your Choice Raffle items. Off to the Grande Ole Opry tonight, so that is why this report is early. Tomorrow is car collection tour day and the awards banquet.

Day 7 ---- Driving tour day. Great travel route and what a collection at the first stop. Mostly 60's to 70's in the main building, but the golf cart ride up to the main house (once owned by country star Alan Jackson) and you got to view some excellent restored vechicles amoungst the others. I had never seen double lifts before (two cars up and two cars under). Very impressive. (Willis Johnson Collection) The second museum housed all the strange and one only vehicles produced by very small or single individuals (google Lane Motor Museum). Very interesting transportation examples --- some, the only example of the vehicle. Food trucks supplied lunch. Great drive (about 55 miles round trip) Awards Banquet tonight and then --- time to say good-bye until next time.

I enjoyed your Adventure very much Ken. I felt bad that I could not be there at the meet. I worked in the yard to keep busy. Don't stop with the Adventure. Let us know what going on.My grandson will be coming with next year. I wish one of the judges was close to me here in Pa. I surely wanted the Judges to inspect my 32 to see what I need to do. I guess I will half to wait until next year. Thanks for all your help. Keep up the good work about your adventure coming home. Kenneth M. Stewart

Day 8 --the lot is now almost empty There are about 6 left. There was a meeting today and we got hear how the Meet went from the chairmen. More good things than bad -- and the weather!!!!! Will head out to dinner tonight and then finish packing for tomorrows trip home. Checked the tires on the 49 and the oil. Will top off the tank with the big buck gas. It was great to see everyone. Much better than a ZOOM meeting.

Judy and I would have loved to go, but were just to old to travel with the '49 that far. Sounds like the weather wasn't very good for c convertible anyway. I guess the Flex would have made the trip, its got a lot of equipment. like AC, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Siruis XM, GPS, etc....... Glad to hear about the adventure anyhow. We'll be heading for Carroll, Iowa with the RG 145 picnic for the Drive Your V-8 Day on the 18th. Jim Taylor

With regards to the weather -- it was excellent at the Meet!!! The long range forecast before leaving home said rain on Thursday --(day 5). That did not happen. Today (day 9) was day one of the drive home. Decided to make it 3 days instead of 2 long ones. Well, so much for that theory. Rain started at 10 am and was on and off. Parked twice at a church and a closed gas station to wait out the down pours. Drove 374 miles -- in 10 hours due to the rain. Traffic light. Makes all the difference if you have a modern vehicle -- not so much with an original one. Had a great meal at a local eating establishment in Vandalia IL. Closer to home tomorrow. Day 10 - Short travel day after the rain lenghtened one yesterday. Only 360 miles with an average speed of 44 mph. Two lanes -- lots of towns to slow down in. It is official: Illinois has the bumpiest 2 lane roads in the nation. It was a wonderful flathead driving day --- temps below 76 degrees, slight wind and plenty of clouds to block the sun. It was a great time in TN, and I hope everyone has made it home safely. We have one more day to go. This message was edited by nelsb01 on 6-7-22 @ 2:19 PM

Day 11 -- home! The day started cool -- 61 degrees and got a bit colder. Took 6.5 hours. Great flathead weather -- but Iowa gave us rain. We parked for a 1/2 hour in a car wash (ironic huh?) Once closer to the border, the sky turned blue and the clouds white. The quick math says we put 2011 miles on the 1949. She performed wonderfully. Gas was not cheap -- total $590.69 (or about .29 per mile) I will still be able to eat at McDonalds tomorrow. Thanks for following my adventure. Once again it was great to see people -- and not on Zoom. Web Administrator

Will try and load some tomorrow. Have been busy trying to get back to being home. Have had to test for Covid, like some of the attendees. There is the grass to mow, the car and clothes to wash. And no matter how hard I try to stop them, those 'bills' just keep showing up. And have to find out why the wipers no longer work. Lived on Rain-X for three of the five travel days. Bruce, I am glad that it does rain in Illinois. It helps our farmers grow good food. You need more RainX on your windshield, I could hardly see the sign. Thanks for the additional photos. It's too bad that Ford did not make any sedans in the early 30's. Tom

Tom, I don't remember sedans from the '30s, but Ford did make trucks. Hard to tell, but this is a 1932 BB Dump Truck. Photo credit to Chris Casbohm. Ken
