Topic: 1946 Ford Convertible Dash Wiring Harness

mgeewhiz    -- 04-02-2020 @ 3:17 PM
I have a mostly original 1946 Ford Convertible, but the under dash wiring is a jumble of wires that have been replaced over the years. I would like to start over with a complete re-wire to bring it back to its original state. Who are the best providers of an original type wiring harness. The car is still 6 volt, and is a solid driver. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

  HI
I used RHODE ISLAND wiring, comes with GREAT instructions and a phone number if you have any problems
all correct colors, all soldered terminals, and correct terminals
MADE IN USE, not FOREIGN made, just remember you get what you pay for,
and MAKING what they SELL, !!!!!!!!

I like Rhode Island Wiring Service ( https://www.riwire.com/ ) and Tyree Harris wires ( 804-556-5200 ). There are more vendors that I have not tried, so I cannot give a comment on their quality.

Rhode Island is perhaps the best there is. However, costly compared to folks like Carpenter. You say you have a nice "driver"? Might I suggest Carpenter for the wiring? Good quality that will hold up for years upon years... easy to follow schematics included and reasonably priced.
I can't imagine having any questions in regard to installation... these old Fords are about as simple as can be.

Thanks to all. The car is an older restoration that wasn't done quite right, so it give me lots of pleasure and small fun projects. I try my best to do it right when something needs doing. I appreciate your help and experience.

I have had good luck with the wiring harnesses from Sacramento Vintage Ford.

I agree on the sources. You will need a wiring diagram for your car. A convertible wiring is somewhat different than a closed car, so be sure that is addressed in your order.
Looms are usually made to fit several models, so you may find some "extra" wires.
