Topic: suspension on a 41 1/2 ton pickup

i am doing an amateur restoration on a 41 pickup and would appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed. I have kept it as original as possible with the addition of bolt on engine mods. I am uncertain how to proceed with the suspension. I rebuilt the kingpins and installed spring perches for tube shocks. Does it require a front sway bar? what about a steering dampener? same on rear suspension. I have made many mistakes over the years and prefer not to make anymore. Any help will be appreciated.

tube shocks front and rear for an everyday driver, sway bar is nice to have, I have put many of these on standard coupes that did not have one from factory. hardest part is finding the perch bolts/swivels that allow you to install a sway bar--getting the old perch bolts out can be a challenge!!! if the rear is a a 4:11 gear you need to change out to at least a 3:78 for speed, conversion brakes for self energizing is good. It really depends on how you intend to drive/use the truck. gives you some food for thought.

About a year ago I used the rear Bob Drake sway bar kit on the rear of a '40 coupe. It comes with all the parts including the rear tube shocks and brackets. It worked well. I did move the upper shock mounts inboard a little so there was clearance for the dual exhaust. I also used the lipped Teflon spring liner on both the front and rear springs and eliminated the two short leaves on the top of each spring. Also make sure you put the thin pad between the top of the spring and the crossmember.
