Topic: 1936 Ford pickup headlamp bucket

gfox8187    -- 02-02-2020 @ 9:14 AM
I have an old headlamp bucket that I need to clean the threads on the mount. Can anyone tell me what size tap to use on this? It seems to be an odd size.

Thank you,
Gary

It is an 11/16-18 nut. Found on page 531 of the Green Book.

I would use something like Evaporust and then a thread chaser to clean the bolt.

  What is the Green Book?

The green book is the Ford Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalogue for 1928 thru 1948. While it is a valuable book to own, one must remember that it was continually updated so many parts have been superseded by replacement parts.
So, if you are using it to find information on a 1936 Ford, the parts listed may have a new part number and prefix.

You should look to find a Chassis Parts manual printed during the year of your vehicle.

I agree with Bruce about owning the green book and the chassis parts catalog for your year. I would also include the Club's 35-36 book as something that you should have. If you can find a Body Parts Catalog for 1936, it would also be a great addition to your reference material.

The original Chassis parts catalog does not give nut, bolt and rivet sizes, the green book has sizes listed for ones that were still available in 1950. The green book does not list all of the replacement parts that were available for your truck and in some cases lists later replacement parts, so you need both of them and the Club's Adviser's advice to do a correct restoration.

The picture shows the what I assume is the Green Book everyone is talking about. They must have changed the name when I wasn't paying attention, I always called the Green Bible. The least expensive reproductions used to be available from Faxon's Auto Literature, (800) 458-2734, http://www.faxonautoliterature.com. Remember that it is not a restoration manual but rather a parts book for the counterman at the Ford dealership.
