I had arranged to purchase a duplicate Mike Nichols had (person who did the wonderful '42 Army Wagon) with pick-up at Hershey, but we never connected. Still very interested. Cpipp, don't see your piece in the classifieds, I gather yours is gone?

I have heard from old Ford mechanics and others that they were tired of hitting their heads working under the hood. They took them off and many times didn't put them back.

Hi from Downunder, I am trying to find a good example of this deflector to look at trying to make a small reproduction run if there is enough interest. I have messaged Dave to see if he still has his for sale or I have a rusty one that I will try to use as a pattern. Meric Hoffman (New Zealand)

If anyone is still looking for a 42 Ford hood air deflector part number 21A-16613 I have listed one in the parts for sale section.

I chatted with the owner/restorer of the 42 Army Wagon at Gettysburg a bit and he mentioned that he had to make the air deflector on his car. I meant to go back and talk to him about it again, but time conspired against me. That was quite a piece of work, mostly done from photos and references, beautiful. His military markings were spurious, but done to honor relatives - always a good reason. Would make an excellent article for the V8 magazine.

Wayne I pretty well searched Hershey this year for the deflector. I haven't gone any further in my hunt but am thinking the next step is to measure one and see if some small shop couldn't make a few. Ted

...and so the great hunt begins. I see a lot of Hershey walking in front of me.

Wayne I do remember looking at your car at Gettysburg in June. I believe that the air deflector was installed on all 1942 Fords. Even the 1942 Ford Fordors that were built for the U.S. Government for the military had this air deflector installed in their hoods. My 1942 Ford Coupe with 56,000 original miles when I first bought it was also missing this deflector but the holes were already in the hood. I put rubber plugs in my hood until I was ready to install the air deflector. My car is a very early car probably built on the first day of production at Long Beach, California. I was lucky that when I had my car on the show field at Hershey in 2001 that I was talking to Ken Brown and Mike O'Connor that I was missing that air deflector and Mike stated that he had a nice used one he would sell me. So I was lucky that I found someone that had one. I have never seen one for sale. I think that if anyone is missing this part now then it was probably removed by a previous owner. I don't see a parts vendor going to the expense of making the tooling for this part as there are so few 1942 Fords left that need this part. The 1942 Ford hood is also a one year only part as the hood was changed for 1946. Tom, I am glad that we are still good friends and you can take that pointed hat off and come back to the front of the class now. I always enjoy reading your posts on the Forum and the Ford Barn. Keep up the good work. The only reason I made my post was that I didn't want to have Jerry drilling holes that he didn't need to. Please everyone on the Forum have a SAFE AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
