Were 49 trim rings ribbed or completely smooth and 15 or 16". My friend ordered a set from "DC" and sent them back as being wrong (they were smooth NOT ribbed) . What were the originals like ???????? thanks for definite info. ken ct.

Smooth. They were an accessory on the 15 inch wheels, which were also an accessory. 16 inch wheels were standard and I don't know if you could order trim rings for them. Here's a picture of my mother's new '49:

Answering my own question: Yes, you could order wheel trim rings in 16" (8A-18303-A) or 15" (8A-18303-B) in sets of five. From "The 1949-50-51 Ford Book" published by the club.

Here's an ad that shows the trim rings better than my picture:

Well Ken this probably doesn't prove anything. I have a set of 15" wheels that came off my 42 when I backed dated it to 16" wheels. They have smooth trim rings. However I don't know the origin of the rings, they were on the wheels, and the car when I purchased it.

Thank you Deluxe for the info. Were the 16" rings also smooth like the 15" ones. My hazy recollection from back then in the 50's were smooth. I'm 77 yrs old so I can remember those times. ken ct.

This might not help but my 50 was bought in late 49 and has 15' wheels and smooth rings. Its a family owned car since new.

1949 Fords came with 16 inch rims. The tire was 6.00 x 16 (except for station wagons).

Yes, trim rings were smooth for 1949.
