It depends when and where it was made. Early 36 ie: nov,dec, of 35 and probably jan 36 used a Strom.#48 Partial installation of Strom. 97's was started in jan or feb and not at all plants at the same time. By apr.-may I would say all were using 97's. 34-36 48's are not quite identicle 34 has no markings on it saying #48. 35-36 had a small #48 embossed on the lip and barrel of said units. I agree with the identification as explained above by Ken. Let me add a couple of twists, that are my opinion. The Stromberg 97 was supplied to Ford and Ford did not have control of other engine manufactures Stromberg supplied the Carb. to. Ford did have a warranty and rebuilding service including Carb.s To identify Ford production Carbs in 1935 and differentiate them from other years and manufactures the small 48 (Ford part number prefix for the 35 Carb.) was added to the Carb. die casting on the top and center sections. To identify the 1936 Stromberg 97 it APPEARS that the Ford part number prefix 67 was added to the casting of the Ford Carbs. top and center sections. The size of the number 97 casting appears to be smaller that some later 97 that are larger in size. Thus the term "large logo 97" today is often given to the Stromberg with the larger casting numbers. I have not seen any of the large logo 97 with the additional 67 numbers. Do I assume you want which I think is correct the large stand alone "(97)" and the small domed fuel pump. Am I correct? ken ct.

That's interesting information. The carb on my '36 has a (I think) large 97 on the carb body and a top with a 67 on it. Maybe a mix and match from a rebuild somewhere along the way, though the patina and finish on both parts match well. Houston, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed.

Its a mix and match,the top was replaced in the past, it will work but not correct. OMO ken ct.
