For those of us that have a stock 6 volt, positive ground, electrical system and want to use a 12 volt, negative ground modern GPS there is a solution. Classic Instruments, 800-668-9216, www.classicinstruments.com has a Power Inverter/Voltage booster. It converts -4 to -16 volts to 13.8 volts and is only 1" square and weighs 9 ounces.

Here is the one that I use to power my CB http://www.amazon.com/Power-Inverter-6v-Positive-Ground/dp/B004P9NX9C My GPS has a USB port for charging, so I am looking at one of the new Lithium ion battery jump starter and phone chargers to power it. I haven't made up my mind as to the best one, but I do want to stay away from the Chinese ones after hearing all of the fire stories with the toys this year.
