studs vs cap screws

My memory of the water pumps is that each had 2 studs w/nuts and one cap screw. I have not been able to prove of disprove that in the '28 - '48 chassis book.

I have only seen capscrews used on the water pumps that are mounted in the block.

Don't know what year engine you have but 24 Stud Flathead V-8's from 1938 and later use 4 bolts to retain each water pump to the engine block. One of these bolts is "hidden" inside the lower water hose inlet nipple. It is recommended to use a stainless steel bolt for this location to ease the replacement of the water pumps in the future.

Yes, my oversight for not writing 21 stud engine, pumps in the head. It's been a long time since it was taken down. I have the memory of studs, and now it looks logical to have 2 studs in the closed holes & 1 cap screw in the outboard hole. But I haven't found a box with the 3/8 inch studs. Maybe when I had the engine rebuilt I didn't notice that they were gone. I do remember that hidden bolt in my '47 engine though. Thanks!
