Jay, The number and Ford script were added to easily identify the parts in the service parts stock. In fact, the first time the upper hoses were marked in any way was February 1944. Sadly, the guys that reproduced these didn't do their homework very well and simply copied a service replacement part. As a side note, the hoses in 1939 didn't have an external support as they did in 1940.

Kube I’m curious how the not-correct Ford script hoses came into being. Back in the day, did replacement hoses from dealer parts counter have the script on them? Or is the script something cute added in more recent times by the aftermarket parts suppliers?

Paul, you are likely to find only the hoses with orange painted markings (Ford script, part number) on them. When you request "original" be aware the hoses should have NO markings. A little lacquer thinner removes the markings.
