Gentlemen, I have a 1949 F-3 pickup, flathead V-8 4 speed non-synchro tranny. Here is the problem; I have a broken front right leaf spring. And, it is the main leaf spring, not just a smaller 'helper' spring. So what do I do? 1. Are there replacement leafs available somewhere? 2. Should I replace the entire spring set? 3. If I replace the entire spring set should I also replace the front left spring set too, as it is 70+ years old too. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. John

For the matter of safety I would replace both springs. Also check the wear on the shackles. It would be a good idea to replace those to at the same time.

51504bat and triford8, Your good advice is well taken. Thank you. I contacted Chuck's Trucks as per your suggestion and as it happens he had two NOS springs and spring accessories for my F-3. I ordered them up and they were delivered today. So all is good so far. I'm going to have a local guy (old timer that worked on these when they were the workhorses of the day) install them at his repair shop/garage. I will keep you posted. John

Always replace in pairs. When I had my service shop back in the 70's to 80's, guys would insist on replacing only the spring that had broken. I'd explain to them why that was not a good approach. I do not recall a single time when these same clients did not return in a rather short period of time to get the other side replaced. John, in my opinion, you did the proper thing by obtaining both springs. Mike "Kube" Kubarth
