Topic: 51 F 2 TRANSMISSION GEARS NOT MESHING

I had a new clutch installed in my 51 F2 about 18 months ago. I was having a problem with gears grinding when shift into third. New clutch did 't correct The installer said that i needed to drive it awhile and it would probably work out. Due to some reliability problems i have only driven it about 100 miles. I tried adjusting the linkage but has not totally corrected. At present it is adjusted per spec and only shifts right about half the time. Could the throw out be installed backwards? or any other ideas. If any of you know a reliable tranny shop in the Indianapolis area would like the contact info. THANKS

Does your truck have the 3-speed or the 4-speed manual transmission? The 3-speed unit has synchromesh on 2nd and 3rd gears whereas the 4-speed is a non-synchromesh unit. If you have the non-synchromesh unit, you will have to double clutch or carefully match engine RPM with transmission RPM when you shift gears to avoid grinding the gears.

My truck is a 4 speed. I have tried double clutch and count to 3 while shifting. Maybe i just need to work a little harder at getting the hang of it. THANK YOU
