We have a 32 PU with the original V8 but it should be very similar to a car? Do you have to raise the engine or can the box be removed without disturbing the engine?

A '32 V8 pickup is a rare beast, most were 4 cylinder. Does the VIN start with "18-" indicating it was a V8 from the factory? In any case, I think you can remove the steering box and shaft from under the car, after you disconnect the mast-jacket from the dash and remove the wheel.

Windjamer, If you remove the exhaust manifold of the left side of the engine block, you can remove the steering gear from above. Since your truck did not originally come equipped with a sail, Ford did not equip it with a mast, but rather a steering column tube.

The truck has no vin. that we can find. The person who sold it to us told us that it was made from parts. The nos. on the trans tell us the trans was from a 35 or 36. The engine?

The VIN should be stamped into the top of the left frame rail near the steering box and visible without removing anything (you should be able to see a little of the frame next to the front fender). It is also probably two other places on the top of the left frame rail under the body/bed but I have heard some say these other two locations were missing on commercials. You need to remove the body/bed to see these other two locations. Be sure to straighten out the paper work before you start anything else. Charlie Stephens
