Topic: Header Panel for 5W coupe

My father has an early / mid year five window coupe. The car is mostly complete, but is missing the header panel and sun visors. I have seen advertisements in the V8 Times for preproductions of the correct double hinge sun visors so that is not a big problem. I have also seen advertisements for reproduction late header panels. My questions are these: can the late header panel be easily substituted for the early header panel? If holes for the early sun visors wre drilled and the panel covered would everything look correct? Are there any other issues I am unaware of?

Thank you for any information you can give.

It should work, although the upholstery material may show the indentations for the end-mounted sun visors. I'd suggest installing "D" (clinch) nuts like the original had as that would make it possible to install the sun visors after the header panel is installed. To install the visors beforehand will make for an unwieldy header panel installation.

Check with LeBaron Bonney. We used their header panels in Model A's. Their e-mail is lbb-hc@greennet-net, or 1-800-221-5408

If you are not able to use the "clinch" nuts you can substitute "Threadserts" or "Nut-serts" which you can buy at Ace Hardware. Once the header is upholstered no one will know the difference. The indentations for the later sunvisors can be filled with some thin padding so they will not show through the upholstery.
