Topic: March 1932 Model B Pickup #AB5001643 – Looking for

Hello everyone, I am a new forum member from New York, and I am reaching out to the early Ford community to see if my truck has ever appeared in any past club rosters, private regional registries, or vintage swap meet logs.

I recently purchased an original-steel 1932 Ford Model B Closed Cab Pickup. The original hand-stamped serial number on the frame rail is AB5001643.Based on early sequential records, this low number places my truck as a very early, "First-Month" March 1932 production vehicle. A few notable details about the truck:

The Engine: It features a Model B 4-cylinder engine block topped with a correct, factory high-compression cylinder head with the prominent raised "C" cast on the top face. It has been updated to a 12-volt system. The Origin: The truck was recently purchased from GR Auto Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan (Stock # B5193 J). The paperwork indicates it came out of long-term storage from a family-owned recycling/scr*p yard in western Michigan.

The Paint Clues: While currently wearing an older coat of black paint, sanding down the interior door face and door posts revealed the factory brick-red oxide primer under layers of what looks like a vintage metallic gold/bronze color (possibly Tunis Gray or Copper Bronze).

Because early collectors frequently documented surviving 1932 Deuces in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, I am hoping one of the registry caretakers or long-time Michigan/New York members might recognize the low VIN AB5001643 from older paper club directories or regional meet rosters.

I am currently working on correcting a poorly welded lower door hinge and planning a full repaint in Washington Blue. Any historical insight, original fleet context from the West Michigan area, or advice from the registry team would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Dennis , D2

  Welcome Dennis.
As you probably are aware, 1932 Fords were 6 volt.
As for other information, I would suggest that you invest in the Early Ford V-8 Club's 1932 Ford Book. There will be more information in the two volumes than you can gather here on our V-8 Forum. (available from our Online Store)

I would make a guess that your pickup may have been repainted over the years since 1932 Ford colors do not list a Copper Bronze. Also, your vehicle may have been part of a fleet order where for an additional cost, optional colors could have been purchased.
Commercial colors for 1932 model year were black, blue rock green, golden orange, mountain brown and vermillion. (from the 1932 Ford Book, page 12-5)

Hope this assists you somewhat.
