Topic: ID for All Ford cars

Hi Guys I need some help . I went to look at a 1932 Ford project. Chassis appears to be original however it was originally a Cabriolet car and the body was missing. I went to look at the top drivers side for the ID number and did not see one. I asked the owner where the number was and he gave me a cabriolet body tag for it. I have never had a cabriolet however I thought that the body tag and the ID number are two different things and that all 32 car frames had OD numbers stamped on the frames. Any help on this appreciated Tom

Your previous thinking is correct; if the subject chassis frame was originally beneath a cabriolet body, the engine number (not the body number) was originally to have been stamped in three places on top of the left side frame. The first was about above the steering box location with the second about midway back and the third on top of the kick up for the rear axle. The first number would have either an AB, B, or 18 prefix. The second and third series of numbers had no prefix stamped into the frame rail, just the sequential engine number.

Either the frame you were looking at was a NOS service part (highly unlikely) or the original engine numbers had been ground off the frame rail (most likely).
