Topic: No One Loves a '32 Ford

CharlieStephens    -- 10-14-2009 @ 12:50 PM
Why did they single the '32 Ford out? Why do they hate us? Why can't we just be part of the rest of the club? All kidding aside, I would like to suggest that the separate section actually does a disservice to the '32 Ford owners. Many questions can be answered by those that don't currently own nor have an interest in the '32 Fords and because of this separation we cannot benefit from their knowledge. Many questions span several years. Creating this separate bucket just increases the amount of time necessary to look at the site. I am sure that this was done with the best of intentions but I would sure like to see this unnecessary bucket removed. Any Comments?

Overall I like the site and would like to thank those that put in the effort to make it happen.

But Charlie -- the more you use the Forum, the more you will like it.
You can slide your mouse pointer over a topic and a window opens to give you what the post is about. Not interested? Move on.
You can see how many posts have been made to an subject entry.
You can see what the current entry is titled, and when it was made without opening the topic title.
All these save time --
The reason that the 1932 was singled out was because it pretains to the current release of the new 1932 Ford Restoration Book. No other reason -- just that there would be lots of possible discussion about the book.
Same reason for the 1940 topic -- new book being worked on and the topic title will be used to gather information and chart progress.

Now that I know the reason I really am scared. The next logical breakout will come when the 1937 book is released. And then another one for the reissue of ...
Soon there will be a dozen buckets. If there was a section for each book and comments about it that might make sense. Maybe expanding the section on Ford Book Corrections to include comments from the members in addition to the approved revisions might be a good idea. Maybe it is just me but I would like fewer buckets. My desire would be to see everything in one bucket (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Trucks). This same philosophy applies to the classified section. There are too many places to check. Anyone else care to comment? Is this all just in my head?

  But Charlie ---
If I understand your thought process, you are right. BUT-- the idea was to link topics about certain vehicles together, so that the 1950 boys (and girls) dont have to read through all the stuff about the early cars, and just view items on their particular year.
NOW -- that all depends on how people enter things on the forum. If a discussion on adding cowl lights on a 1932 leads to a discussing on wiring my 1949 for turn signals -- then it can be a huge waste of time trying to follow it along.
BUT -- on the other hand, if I am looking for information on a 1940 Ford, it would be nice to have it all together in one place.
Hang in there Charlie, it will all come around. There will be general discussion, discussion on trucks, and the other Ford makes.........
Everyone is learning about this revision to the website. Remember, using your mouse pointer can save a lot of time and reading. You can click on the most recent topic from the main Forum page. And you can also click back to any topic from a single page.
Progress is good -- and generalizing the Forum topics is good too.

I think it is a great idea to have the separate buckets for high volume topics.

The topics covered in the books buckets have limited appeal to someone trying to trouble shoot a problem on his car or to someone that doesn't own the particular model covered in the book.
