Topic: 59AB water pumps

I have a 59AB in my 5W and the water pumps seize after maybe 4-6 weeks of inactivity. Does this indicate
an older type pump? I don't know when the engine was installed...
Thanks for the help.

are you using plain water ?
or a coolant antifreeze ?
did you try water pump lube,
also your oil holes from the engine to water pumps could be clogged, or wrong gaskets, and the bushings are not getting lube,
do they have any play,? tight to turn,?
maybe gaskets installed incorrectly ?
have correct fan belt,?
hope this helps. 1937Ragtopman

  Thanks
I'll look to see the oil holes...and those would indicate a non-sealed bearing pump, right?

You're going to have to remove the pumps to see the oil hole, why not just replace the pumps??

  Paul,
Well, they worked well (and still do) until this seizing started this year and it is a fair amount of work to replace them due to the more limited room of the 32 engine bay. I wasn't sure what the previously mention oil holes referred to as I have only used the newer sealed bearing manufactured pumps on other cars. Do you know if the 59AB has a mount hole for the 32 engine mounts or did the previous owner tap the block?
Thanks

Perhaps this discussion might be better served addressed to the wider audience of the general discussion forum given that 59a water pumps post date '32 production by fair number of years.
