Topic: 32 Ford Model B, Need Help

Nicker    -- 08-03-2020 @ 6:16 PM
My name is Nick Nichols and I recently had a death in the family and I need some information on a Ford model B in storage for about 20 years. It’s complete but the Grillsh*lle hood and some engine parts have been removed. To the best of my knowledge everything is there. I asked a relative to take some pictures but the below is what I got. I need some approximate values so that my relative does not let it go for $100 and you haul it. Can you pass me to someone that could help with this information.

Thanks for your help
Nick Nichols

The most important cost driver you have left out is what body style is it? Tell the relatives that it is valuable enough to get some good pictures and post them. If there is very little knowledge about old cars in the family tell the executer that maybe a professional appraisal would be in order. Contact a local chapter of this club (see https://www.earlyfordv8.org/Regional_Club_Directory.cfm) and see if someone could take a look at it. Remember if the person looking at it, or their friend, also wants to buy it there is a definite conflict of interest. The missing parts are available.

Working on whether it is a two door or four-door and if it is a two door I will get a picture of the back end. (Vicky maybe, assume Victoria came in B model also?) May be a while for an answer as relative closest is in and out of town. Thanks for the response will keep y’all advised. Nick

As Charlie indicates, we're flying blind here without a photo of the body and at least one of the interior to give us some idea of its completeness and how much was done and remains to be done. While the '32s weren't especially rust prone, it would be helpful to know if there are any rust issues with the body. At this point all we know for sure is that it is a '32 chassis and a Model B four (with the fuel pump installed upside down).

Charlie and David, appreciate the comments and guidance but unfortunately this one’s gonna take a little while. Think it’s going to be a contested will. Will definitely keep you advised and especially after I get some more pictures. I have found out that it is a four-door.

There is a publication called the “Old Cars Price Guide”. You should be able to find it on the Internet. It is useful because it provides the value in writing that can be used in settling the estate. I must admit I found it a little low on Fordors when I was looking for one in the nineties. The real answer will come from researching recent selling prices.

Be careful when asking people about the value. For many years they were unappreciated and considered “donor” cars when building a more desirable body style. The are definitely becoming more popular.

Here is a link to the Price Guide.

You would need to post a complete set of photos before any one could have an idea of the condition of the car. An incomplete car is worth a lot less than a complete car, so you will have to know if the missing parts are in the garage or basement.

Tom, thanks for the price guide info. My guess timewise before I can do anything about it is 4 to 6 months. Will advise! Nick
