I'm planning on putting a 53 Mercury flathead into my 52 Ford Mainline. Are there any major concerns about the swap? Waterpumps? Drive shaft? Crank diameter?

Many years ago I replaced a 6cyl in a 53 ford with a 53 merc engine. As I recall, I used the merc bell housing, flywheel and clutch and it bolted right in.

The v-8 blocks are identical. Ford used different water pumps, bell housing and intake manifold. Tom

If i have the complete Merc motor, it should just drop in from what i understand? Except the water pumps? Thanks.

yes,and I'm not sure you will have to change water pumps. I'm thinking that the merc pumps will bolt to the ford mounts, but check it out. I don't trust my memory any more.

If the Merc has the 52-53 water pumps, you should not need to change them. I would change the intake to use the less troublesome Ford carburetor. Tom
