I have a 1940 ford V8. I just changed out the plug wires and now have a backfire at low speed and less power. I replace the wires in the cap to match the number in the cap with 1-4 on the passedger side of the block. Any ideas/

Take 1 wire at a time off with a pair of insulated pliers and see if the engine runs smoother.Sounds like you have 2 that are not on the correct plug.

X2 / Could be crossed at the plugs or in the inside cap. Cap holes are numbered check again or 1 wire could have come out during installation. They must be really pushed in usually click when home. ken ct.
