I'm buying a new battery for my '51 Ford. The car lost 7 points at the last meet for having an aftermarket battery installed. I would like to get the right case and I would like to have an Optima inside. The manufacturer says that he can only build batteries with the positive terminal on the corner nearest the "F" in the Ford script or in the diagonally opposite corner. The batteries only have the Ford script on one side. Thus, the script would show on a '40 Ford (with the positive in the corner opposite the "F"), but will be toward the battery case on the fender side and will not be visible on the '51. My question is this: Did Ford make a special battery for the '51 with the script on the side toward the engine, or did they just install the battery with the script not showing?

Deluxe40. Here is the correct batteries for a 51 Ford showing the script orientation with reference to the (+) and (-) terminals. It sounds like the manufacturer has the right orientation for you.

Thanks, Don. I guess I'll take a picture of the Ford script to post on the garage wall before I install the battery in the car.
