I have a mostly original 32 5W that long ago had the original front axle replaced with a 'dropped axle'. I don't like the stance so, in general terms, how difficult is it to replace it with an original front axle? Thanks for the help...

It's a simple swap. Drop the front end and spring out of the crossmember. (make sure car is supported well before starting). Support the axle assmbly with some jack stands or big wood blocks. Remove both front brake assemblies and then remove the kingpins and spindles. Remove the spring from the perches, remove the axle pins at the wishbone, and the axle slides out of the wishbone. Reverse the process to put in the new axle. Shop around for an original axle which may take some time. Don't tear your car apart until you find one.

Check to be sure the spindle arms weren't dropped to go with the axle, you may be looking for a new pair of spindles also. Try a wanted ad here, on fordbarn.com and on HAMB to see if you can find someone to swap with. Trjford8 is right about finding the parts before you tear anything apart. Remember that there was the "heavy" 1932 production axle and the '33-'36 style that will fit. If you put your general location in your profile something might magically appear. I don't know the setup that you have, but the original axle takes a transverse spring and you will need to spread it to install it. You can make one or rent or borrow a Porta-Power to spread the spring. Tom
