Hi, I have a question about the starter button on my 39. I see the catalogs list a yellow plastic starter button for 39. My 39 and a previous one I owned both had metal chrome buttons. Are those replacements or were they correct? Thanks

As previously noted, your car originally had a tan plastic button. Perhaps a shade off topic but be forewarned: the repop starter buttons are "iffy" at best. If total authenticity does not matter to you, locate old stock and utilize that. The repop buttons typically provide a very poor (did I mention VERY poor?) ground contact and the word stamped in to the bezel is very faint. All in all - junk. Thanks for the replies guys. That is kind of what I thought. I don't have one in front of me at the moment, but I wonder if it would be difficult to disassemble a repop and an original and swap the buttons. I think I have a couple of chrome (replacement style) ones in the shop. Otherwise I will just use the one that is in the car as it works fine. Thanks again.

It's fairly easy to replace the button. The only issue can be fit. The repop buttons are not always a match for the authentic in size / design.

If you are not concerned with showing the car, just use the button you have. Even if you show it you might only lose a point or two

Thanks everyone, it looks like maybe I will be satisfied with the button that has been working satisfactorily for the last 48 years.

I just bought a Merc dimmer switch that was chrome and took a couple of different colors to match the existing color for a 41. You could do that and paint the button.
