How do I get a stuck clutch free on a car that has sat for a long time ?

Put the rear wheels up on jack stands. Start the engine, put it in high gear, release the parking brake, hold the clutch pedal down, give it a little gas, and jab the brakes a few times. This will usually do it. This message was edited by cliftford on 8-13-15 @ 4:39 AM

I have had this happen to my 1940 twice! In both cases, I took out the center floor panel, then removed the clutch inspection cover from the transmission housing. With the motor off, and the car in neutral, I reached in with a 90 degree brake tool (like a wide, slot-head screwdriver bent 90 degrees at the tip), pushed down the clutch pedal, and pulled the clutch disk off of the flywheel. I removed the tool and bumped the starter to rotate the engine/flywheel/clutch and again, reached in with the break tool and pulled the disk back. After about four tries at this, the clutch came loose.

I've had it happen a few times in 43 years of 34 Fords. Easy way when not stuck for years: Put in 3rd gear and rock back and forth and it will pop loose. 1934 Ford's since 1972
